The Balsam Centre is a healthy living centre that has provided community-based, participatory, purposeful and life-changing activities that improve people’s well-being.
What started as the vision of a single mother with mental health challenges has become a venture which has supported the lives of people in Wincanton and the surrounding area for over 20 years.
The Balsam Centre is also the project base and the focus for activity for the ‘On The Move’ Community Connections Project, which aims to provide support and opportunities for newly arrived families of serving personnel moving into and living in Wincanton.
The role will involve working with Navy Welfare from the Yeovilton Naval Base, and an existing multi agency team which includes other Healthy Living Centre project workers, the Health Visitor team, a social and therapeutic horticulture team and many other statutory and voluntary sector workers in South East Somerset.
In addition to supporting those who may be lonely or isolated, the job will involve working with family members of any age experiencing low level mental ill health, physical ill health or disability, or other condition or vulnerability.
The successful candidate will have a proven, successful track record of outcome-based delivery, with individuals, groups and communities. They will also have familiarity with child and vulnerable adult safeguarding principles and procedures, as well as knowledge and understanding of professional boundaries and of relevant statutory frameworks.
