Fun on the farm for SCC employees
7th Jan 2020

By helping a local organisation through our Employer Supported Volunteering service, you can enjoy a unique team building experience and give something back to your local community.

Staff from Somerset County Council's Recruitment Services team found this out the fun way, when they recently spent the day volunteering at EAQ Manor Farm.

Volunteers with horsesEAQ Manor Farm offers equine assisted learning opportunities aimed at increasing the confidence and self-esteem of people who struggle to learn within a more traditional education setting.

The team spent the day planting trees, shrubs, spring bulbs and over 200 saplings, which were donated by the Somerset Woodlands Trust. In return for their hard work, they were treated to a homemade lunch around the camp fire, met the resident donkeys and enjoyed a demonstration by EAQ's therapy horses, Mini and Tobi.

Carrie Minnal, Recruitment Services Manager at Somerset County Council, said:

"We had a fantastic day with EAQ Manor Farm! We were able to help a really inspiring organisation who work to improve lives of children, young people and adults, and it also gave us the opportunity as a team to work together outside of the workplace - the mince pies were an added bonus! My employer offers time off for volunteering and I’d never taken up the opportunity to use it before now - I would highly recommend it!"

Ian Roberts, Director at EAQ Manor Farm said:

"We really appreciate all of the hard work done by the volunteers who attended our Centre, and we were surprised by many jobs they were able to complete on the day. Our staff & learners are all really looking forward to see the results of all of their hard work. We are always happy to welcome groups of volunteers to our Centre.”
