Volunteering Project Coordinator, Open Mental Health, Spark Somerset

Location - Somerset

It’s an exciting time to join our growing, friendly team, as we continue our work to support amazing volunteers who rally to the aid of Somerset’s communities. Volunteering is at the heart of strong communities and offers huge benefits to volunteers themselves and to those they help.

Spark Somerset is a proud member of the Somerset Mental Health Alliance. We are working in partnership to ensure the residents of Somerset get the support they need when they need it. Open Mental Health supports people to live a full life and an important aspect is access and support to volunteer. This purpose of this project is to improve the offer to people wanting to volunteer and support people who may need additional help to volunteer.   We are seeking a creative and experienced individual who will shape this exciting project from the start.
We want to ensure that anyone who wants to volunteer can access the support they need and contribute to a cause they believe in. Working closely with alliance partners, you will coordinate a joined-up approach across Somerset to attract and support volunteers, alongside developing a supported volunteering service for people with experience of poor mental health.
We’re looking for an enthusiastic self-starter who shares our passion for supporting people to volunteer in their community, helping a cause they believe in while gaining self-esteem, resilience and skills.

You will have at least two years' experience of supporting people with mental health difficulties and excellent team working, ICT and communication skills. You will have a creative, pragmatic and organised approach to your work and in return, you will be offered training and support to further develop your career.
We offer flexibility around when and where you work. Some work will be in the community - for example attending meetings or events anywhere in Somerset - and this might include evenings or weekends.

This is a full-time role at a salary of £24,000 on a 12-month fixed term contract. You'll find further information, including a job description and person specification here.

To apply, please send your completed application form to or to the office address below. CVs will not be accepted. The closing datefor applications is 12 noon on Thursday 24th September. Interviews will be held via Zoom on Tuesday 29th September.

If you have any questions in the meantime, or would like to have an informal discussion about the post, please call our Volunteering Development Manager, Charlotte Jones, on 07512 456739.
