Spark Training programme 2023/24

An affordable programme of online and classroom-based training sessions for Somerset charities and community groups.

Applied Suicide Intervention Skills Training (ASIST)

ASIST is a two-day, in person workshop delivered by Mind in Somerset, where you’ll learn how to prevent suicide by recognising signs, providing a skilled intervention, and developing a safety plan to keep someone alive. This training can be completed as part of the Orange Button Scheme in Somerset.

Takes place on Wednesday 6 & Thursday 7 December, and Thursday 25 & Friday 26 January, near Taunton.

Supporting LGBTQ+ Mental Health Workshop

Join The Diversity Trust for a three-hour, online workshop exploring the mental health and wellbeing of LGBTQ+ people, how lived experiences impact the community, and how to improve inclusion.

Takes place on Thursday 7 December from 9.30am - 12.30pm, via Teams.

Introduction to Youth Work

A training course delivered by South Gloucestershire Playscheme, aimed at new youth workers and youth volunteers, or those who volunteer with children and young people and want to find out if youth work is for them.

Takes place on 13 and 20 January 2024, and 3 and 9 March 2024.

Five Ways to Wellbeing - Train the Trainer

This online course, hosted by the Open Mental Health Community Engagement team, will train you in the Five Ways to Wellbeing - simple actions that anyone can take to improve their day-to-day wellbeing. You will be equipped with skills that you can share with others to help them take simple, evidence based steps to look after themselves.

Takes place on Tuesday 23 January from 11:30am -2pm, via Zoom.

Somerset Mental Health Network Conference and Training Day

A meeting for VCSE organisations working in the area of mental wellbeing where you'll have the opportunity to hear from a variety of guest speakers, take part in bite-sized workshops, and catch up with other members of the Network.

Takes place on Thursday 25 January 2024, 9.30am - 3.30pm, at the Canalside Conference Centre in Bridgwater.

Vicarious Trauma and Nurturing Resilience

An online training course focussing on Vicarious Trauma. You will learn what Vicarious Trauma is, how to spot the signs and symptoms within yourself and others, as well as minimise your risk by working protectively.

Takes place on Thursday 1 February from 9.30am-1pm, via Zoom.

Support Skills for Bereavement Training

During this online session, you will learn the impact a person who has been bereaved may experience, and gain the practical skills that will influence approaches to bereavement in a positive way.

Working with LGBTQ+ Young People in Somerset

A free online training session that aims to increase knowledge and confidence when working with LGBTQ+ young people, facilitated by 2BU Somerset and funded by the Somerset Mental Health Network.

Takes place on Friday 9 February from 11am - 1pm, online.

Just wanted to let you know I did the ‘Train the Trainer’ session on ‘Five Ways to Wellbeing’ that Gill Harrison delivered yesterday as part of the partnership between Spark Somerset and Open Mental Health. I was very impressed not only with the standard of training but with the course itself.
